Thailand received 8.6 million foreign arrivals between January and April of this year, with spending totaling US$10.45 billion, a government official said on Friday.
The government is expecting more than 520,000 foreign tourists to visit Thailand in the first week of May alone, Anucha Burapachaisri, government spokesperson, said in a statement.
Last year, over 10 million foreign visitors traveled to Thailand between January and December 2022. The government estimates that there will be between 25 to 30 million arrivals for the full year.
In February 2023, a foreign tourist group predicted that more than 5 million foreign visitors will come to Thailand in 2023 due to the country’s quarantine waiver. They also urged that the Thai government could help the tourism sector by easing travel restrictions even further.
