HAI Report: Kashmir’s post-pandemic tourism popularity is rising

The Hotel Association of India (HAI) unveiled “Vision 2047,” a 25-year roadmap for the future of Kashmir’s hospitality and tourism industries, and reported that the region’s popularity as a tourist destination has increased since the end of the pandemic.

“The report highlights the rising appeal of Kashmir as a travel destination, especially for adventure tourism, in the aftermath of the pandemic,” HAI stated.

According to the report, this recognition of Kashmir’s allure coincides with a rise in the number of tourists, which is reinforced by increased support from the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administrations.

According to the report, this year’s Miss World program has established UT as a serious competitor in the event tourism market. Last year, about 18 million tourists visited J&K and G20-related events.

“The recent G20 meeting hosted in the Union territory not only gave a boost to regional tourism but also showcased the area’s potential as a destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and wedding tourism,” the HAI added.

KB Kachru, vice president of HAI, attributed the recent increase in tourism to Kashmir’s rich history, culture, and natural attractiveness. He said the HAI report addresses obstacles to sustainable tourism growth and proposes policy interventions to achieve tourism goals.

According to a statement, the Union government has allocated a record budget of Rs 786 crores to the Jammu and Kashmir tourism sector, a significant increase from previous allocations, to capitalize on the tourism industry’s potential for job creation and inclusive economic development.

It added that the planned allocations for the Union territory’s twenty districts have more than doubled from Rs 5,136 crores in 2020-2021 to Rs 12,600 crores in 2021-2022.

According to the statement, The report examines various future scenarios and what the industry can accomplish by the time India celebrates its 100th year of independence.

The document envisions a dynamic, vibrant hospitality industry that contributes to the nation’s development objectives, according to the Hotel Association of India’s secretary general, MP Bezbaruah.

HAI released the report following a meeting with Union Secretary (Tourism) V Vidyavathi, during which the association presented her with a copy of the report.
